Welsh Government determines its construction strategy

After several years of development, the devolved government of Wales has published its Built Environment Mission and a Digital Action Plan for Construction. These are important documents, as they will bring greater clarity to construction processes across Wales. But what do these plans consist of, and how will they affect the construction industry in the future?

What are the specialities of that strategy?

The key points of the Welsh Government’s new construction strategy include several commitments. It`s project bank accounts, prioritizing refurbishment over new builds, and promoting off-site prefabrication of major construction components.
The Digital Action Plan for Construction, developed in partnership with Constructing Excellence in Wales (CEW), outlines key priorities aimed at improving productivity, enhancing project delivery, and supporting the development of future-oriented skills across the sector.

How does the Welsh Government’s construction strategy influence the UK building industry?

The formation of a construction strategy by the Welsh Government will have a positive impact on the construction sector. First of all, it will bring clarity to the government’s plans, which in turn will strengthen the confidence of investors and contractors.
Rebecca Evans, Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy, and Planning, said:

“Construction is a fundamental sector that underpins the delivery of essential infrastructure, housing, public services, and economic development. It is central to our ambitions for a greener, fairer, and more prosperous Wales. Also it plays a vital role in supporting local supply chains, creating jobs, and delivering social value. We continue to champion the use of Project Bank Accounts (PBAs) to ensure fair and timely payments throughout public sector construction supply chains. The Welsh Government’s Commercial and Procurement Team is working with stakeholders to expand the adoption of updated guidance. This policy supports small and medium-sized enterprises by improving cash flow, reducing risk, and promoting ethical employment practices in line with our procurement principles.”

Fencyx, as one of the leaders in the UK building industry, positively reacts to the adoption of this strategy. With its help, it will become easier for us — as well as for other construction companies — to operate effectively.
