The UK Building Industry Growth, Despite a Economic Trend

According to an analysis conducted by ONS, the UK building industry in April increased by 0.9%.

This marks the third consecutive month of growth for the UK building industry, despite an overall decline in GDP. What are the reasons behind this growth, and how will the construction sector develop shortly?

What Influences the Growth?

Among the key factors driving growth are new government funding for social housing and infrastructure projects. Industry representatives also expect a reduction in the interest rate next week, which is expected to further stimulate the sector. The strongest growth was seen in:

  • New building construction (+1.4%)
  • New infrastructure development (+2%)

Meanwhile, building repair and maintenance increased by 0.3%, while the private industrial sector saw a decline of 1.2%.

How Will the Building Industry Move Soon?

According to expert forecasts, the construction sector is expected to continue growing, even against the backdrop of a declining UK economy.

There are several supporting conditions for this:

  • High demand due to government programs
  • A clear understanding among construction market players of the government’s near-term policies

Clive Docwra, managing director of McBains, said: “Today’s figures are better than many expected, especially given they buck the overall economic picture, and will give hope that the construction sector’s recovery may be starting to generate some impetus. New work orders increasing by 1.4%, and infrastructure output specifically growing by 2%, are particularly encouraging.”

Fencyx, as one of the leaders in the UK building industry, is pleased with the current direction of the UK construction market. This situation will support the development of both the UK economy overall and the construction industry specifically, while also providing tens of thousands of families with jobs and giving millions of people access to reliable and high-quality infrastructure.
