The New battery storage system has been designed for battery storage for offshore winds
This month, Aecom presented a new battery storage system. This decision was made to develop wind-green energy. But what is so special in this system and how may it be useful for wind turbine farms?
The main source: Aecom to design Hornsea 3 storage system
What is the new battery storage system?
The main idea for this system is to make renewable energy more flexible. As it is known, modern energy systems cannot accumulate electricity. They work according to the needs of the consumers. So, a new accumulation facility was created to solve this problem.
The prototype is planned to be installed in tandem with the new Hornsea 3 wind turbine farm. Tesla, the project’s chief executive, has already signed a cooperation agreement. Accumulation facilities are expected to be entered into service by February 2025. The station is expected to accumulate 21.9 GW of electricity and provide 300 MW nominal power and 600 MW max power.
Which benefits do these battery storage systems have?
There are a lot of benefits that has this invention and many problems that it solves.
First and foremost, it`s equal energy distribution. Now, wind turbine farms can store energy during strong winds and release it at peak load moments on the power system.
Also, such a decision may further decrease electricity prices, which will have an awesome influence on all spheres of life.
“Offshore wind will play an important role in the UK’s energy mix and expanding renewable energy storage will be key to maximizing its potential,” said Aecom UK & Ireland energy director Eloise John.
“The benefits this project will provide to the UK’s energy grid – addressing the intermittency of renewable energy sources, thereby increasing system stability while reducing price volatility – will help accelerate the growing adoption of these types of batteries for offshore wind and beyond. This fantastic project shows the potential of this technology at a global level and highlights the need for energy shortage as an essential component of the UK energy strategy for transitioning to net zero.”
Fencyx, as one of the leaders in the UK building industry, is happy to see such projects exist and develop. Decreasing resource prices and making them more available will positively influence not only the building industry but also all spheres of life.
