Near 600 New Skyscrapers are Going to Be Built in London

The New London Architecture (NLA) Centre has published plans for the city’s development over the next 10 years. Among other projects, it presented plans for the construction of over 583 skyscrapers within the next decade. However, opinions on this project are divided, with many questioning the feasibility of such large-scale construction.

What is the Project?

The new project from the architectural agency proposes around 583 new skyscrapers with 20 or more stories to be built in London over the next 10 years. This will be more than in any other city in Europe, leading some to call the British capital the “Manhattan on the Thames.” For comparison, 270 skyscrapers were built in London over the last 10 years, so this project is indeed ambitious.

Peter Murray, an NLA co-founder, said in the report: “Tall buildings have changed the face of London substantially over the last 20 years and will continue to do so — the pipeline that NLA has tracked means there is at least ten years’ supply that has already been defined.

London’s population continues to grow, passing the 10 million mark at the end of this decade. We’ll still need tall buildings, and NLA will continue to keep a close watch on what’s going on.”

How Will the New Skyscrapers Influence London’s Infrastructure?

There are numerous benefits that the city could gain from building new high-rise buildings. Specifically, the high demand for real estate, driven by increased investment in both the city and the United Kingdom overall, means this project has a strong chance of meeting investor needs entirely.

Nevertheless, not all city residents are pleased with the project. About 50% of those surveyed believe that London already has enough high-rises and that new constructions would be unnecessary. For comparison, around 34% held this view 10 years ago.

As a leader in the construction industry, Fencyx believes that this project will have more positive than negative effects. In particular, it will contribute to the growth of the construction sector. This will create new jobs and improve working conditions for existing employees.
