Using artificial intelligence, or AI in different projects has been a global trend in recent years. The building industry doesn`t stay away from these processes. In 2024, the Infrastructure and Projects Authority (IPA) introduced a new revolutionized framework that paves the way for utilization of AI instruments on public projects. New software aimed to lead the construction industry to a new level.

How this AI software will influence the building industry

The introduction new AI instruments by IPA discover new opportunities for building companies. The main goal of these innovations is increasing efficiency and reducing cost spending. First of all, using artificial intelligence increases data analytics of projects. It allows construction companies to optimize project planning and design processes. Also, they can optimize resource allocation and accelerate the implementation of projects.

Secondly, using AI software increases the quality of the decision-making process based on data analysis. Unlike human work, the new government framework can make better and quicker analysis of entering data and experience of previous projects. These allow to reduce human error and create new, previously unavailable projects.

Thirdly, AI instruments give new capabilities in building information modeling (BIM). It allows architects, engineers, and contractors to create more accurate and detailed digital models of construction projects. These not only provide better collaboration between different stakeholders but also increase the overall quality of the project, reducing human error and fatigue.

These are not all benefits that give integration of artificial intelligence in the building industry. The main goal of these actions is to reduce human error, time delays, and additional spending. Forecast, that framework will be implemented in projects with a general capitalization of over 805 billion pounds, improving their efficiency and helping to solve the main challenges.

Cabinet Office Minister of State, Baroness Neville-Rolfe, said: “The innovation we are seeing in data analytics and AI has the potential to significantly benefit government project delivery and, even more importantly, to save the taxpayer money. As a former business executive, I am delighted that our new framework sets out our determination to explore the possibilities further through collaboration, upskilling, and experimentation.”

In turn, Karina Singh, Director of Function, Insights & Profession at the IPA, said: “The use of advancing technologies, especially AI, is a topic of broad and current interest. This paper cuts through the noise to provide a framework of actions we can use to experiment with and upskill project delivery professionals to get the most out of this fast-moving development.”
