Which problems do construction companies have with greenhouse building in the UK, and which reasons for this:
The main problem happened with Home Energy Model (HEM) software, which changed the previous version – SAP. This program using for the calculation of the future efficiency of houses. The main problem with this software is the unpossibility of proving compliance with some houses’ FHM standards. The most problem cause calculation of heat pumps power and solar batteries power on roofs.
For example, the program showed that it required more roof surface for solar panels, which did not orient on south, than the project predicted. Also it is impossible to moderate the heat pumps power level for unknown reasons. However developers afraiding that the problem may be even huge than previously thought.

The “greenhouse hub” program in the UK is a government initiative aim to promote the construction of environmentally friendly and energy-efficient homes to reduce CO2 emission levels. It was present at the end of 2021, when construction companies from the UK got a Future Home Standart (FHS) – list with criterias for building, which should reduce CO2 emissions of new build homes by up to 80%. This program is one of the parts of the UK government’s goal to reach zero CO2 emission level by 2050. For today no clear mind how to solve this problem. The government continued consultation with building companies about HEM for three weeks, trying to solve all the questions. Steve Terner, CEO of the Federation of Home Builder says that the building industry will continue to introduce future homes standard, and he add that the government must play its role and give all necessary instruments for future modulation. Also, sources that met with this problem say that it can take up to 2 years to solve problems with software that will further move the implementation of future home standards.
