BSI publishes new advices about alternative binders
The British Standards Institution (BSI) has published Lower Carbon Concrete—Alternative Binder Systems—Code of Practice (BSI Flex 350 Version 2). This document lists alternative binders and how they may be used in the building industry. The institution also describes how construction companies may use these binders in their work.
The main source: BSI issues guidance on alternative binders
What does the new document include?
The first and main thing is that the BSI document includes a list of alternative binders that may be used in the building industry. This allows companies to have more mobility and better plan their projects.
The second simplifies the perception of Portland cement concrete. It`s a new material that contains a lower amount of CO2 in comparison with traditional concrete. It will positively impact the environmental and health situation in Great Britain.
And third, the organization publishes a list of recommendations on how to use these new materials. Such information will be useful for companies because it simplifies their work and planning process.
Why does the building industry search for alternative binders?
As we mentioned earlier, there are several factors why construction companies look for new materials. First of all, it`s an environmental factor. New materials are more eco-friendly and have a positive impact on the situation with CO2 consumption.
Also, the implementation of new alternative binders helps to diversify the market. This in turn decreases the prices and helps building companies to have wider offers for their customers.
Clare Price, built environment sector lead at the BSI said: “The built environment has a huge role to play in supporting the transition to net zero. This guidance is designed to empower engineers to make more sustainable choices to reduce carbon emissions in construction projects while giving all involved confidence in the suitability of chosen materials. Steps like this can help us create a sustainable built environment that serves the needs of people and the planet.”
Fencyx, from our side, supports such a decision and develops alternative bingers. This decision will have a very positive impact on the global building market, the positive consequences of which we will feel for many years to come.
