BAM receive a contract for the first phase of the redevelopment of a North Devon District Hospital
BAM construction company received a contract for the first phase of the redevelopment of a North Devon District Hospital. This decision was approved and published by Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust – an organization responsible for the hospital. Known as Our Future Hospital, the redevelopment plan forecast upgrades buildings and equipment, allowing the hospital to accept more patients.
What is the current condition of the hospital?
This project is vital because the health building hasn`t been redeveloped for over 50 years. Currently, the building doesn`t cope with the number of patients, creating a problem for the district. Also, the healthcare facility excluded some amenities for patients and staff. Due to this is impossible to set up new modern equipment due to performance limitations.
Which plans does the company have for redevelopment?
The first stage of redevelopment provides new facilities for staff accommodation. Chris Tidman, Deputy Chief Executive and Senior Responsible Officer (SRO) of the Our Future Hospital Programme, said: “The Trust is delighted to have appointed BAM to deliver phase one of the redevelopment at North Devon District Hospital. With much of the estate in North Devon now over 50 years old, this program is vital to the future health and well-being of local people and the wider Devon healthcare system. We look forward to working alongside BAM to begin the journey of creating a healthspace that is fit for the future, enables new technologies, and allows us to deliver high-quality, modern services to people across North Devon.”
Also, company plans include building new facilities to provide a wider range of services and increase the number of patients that the healthcare may care for.
North Devon District Hospital is the first object in the global UK government program, aiming to redevelop 40 hospitals across England by 2030.
