BAM Construction received a contract for the first phase of the redevelopment of North Devon District Hospital. The decision was approved by the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
- The hospital estate has not been redeveloped for more than 50 years.
- Phase one will provide new facilities for staff accommodation.
- Future phases will expand services and patient capacity.
- The project is part of a programme to redevelop 40 hospitals across England by 2030.
What is the current condition of the hospital?
The building does not cope with the number of patients and lacks some amenities for patients and staff. Its performance limitations also make it difficult to install modern equipment.
Which plans does the company have?
The first stage provides new staff accommodation and begins the journey to create a healthspace fit for the future, enabling new technologies and modern services across North Devon.
Further plans include new facilities, a wider range of services, and greater patient capacity. North Devon District Hospital is the first object in the UK government programme to redevelop 40 hospitals by 2030.
